Abstract

This article identifies that the soil salinity of the Termez district today is a type of salinity that occurs as a result of abrupt changes in the environment due to human activity and the deterioration of the ecological situation, depending on the distribution of salts in the genetic layers of the soil, the soil-forming parent species of the geomorphological regions, and the soil types and subtypes. The harm caused by soil salinity to the national economy is extremely great. Scientific studies and field experiments have proven that cotton yields in weakly saline lands are reduced by 25–30% compared to fertile, non-saline lands, by 40–50% in moderately saline soils, by 60–80% in soils with strong sulfate-chloride and chloride salinity, and in extremely saline and saline soils, plant seedlings die completely after the first irrigation. The main reason for this is the “toxic” (poisonous) effect of toxic salts accumulated in the soil on plants. In this zone, natural and anthropogenic factors have had a strong impact on the geochemical situation and soil formation processes, resulting in a negative water-salt balance and a deterioration in the ecological condition of irrigated soils.
